Matahary, Willy Fuego (both vocalists) and Gerard (drummer with Radio Bemba) formed La Kinky Beat, together with Donato and Manel (bass player and percussionist from the already mythic Barcelona band, Trimelón), to which, Madjid (guitarist with Radio Bemba) subsequently signed on. In only a year the group has emerged as one of the principal referents of “mestiza” music in Barcelona.
After their first, non-stop tour of practically the entire Iberian Peninsula, Germany, France Holland, Italy and Belgium, La Kinky Beat has dedicated part of the spring to preparing their first CD, which will be produced September 13th by Kasba Music and distributed by K Industria.
The CD which includes 15 tracks that vary between rock steady, reggae, punk and the more savage side of “mestiza” music, is distinguished by its exquisite design, thanks to Ferzeta (who in the past collaborated with Trimelón). The CD is produced by Stephane Carteaux (pruducer of Cheb Balowski and Trimelón, among others), together with David Bourguignon (musician with Radio Bemba, who also performed periodically with La Kinky) and the band. Present among the collaborators are friends who recorded on the demo, like David (guitar), Arecio Smith (keyboards, who now performs live with the group), Petete (trombone), and friends who have accompanied the group on tour, like Yacine (Cheb Balowski), Gambeat (Radio Bemba) and Muchachito (Trimelón).
This CD is the first produced by Kasba Music, a new label established in Barcelona, created by diverse individuals intimately related to the Barcelona music scene: David Bourguignon (musician—Radio Bemba, Trimelón, Color Humano...), Stephane Carteaux (musician—Color Humano, technician--Trimelón, Cheb Balowski...), Tomas Arroyos (musician—Color Humano, Dusminguet...), Joni (manager—Hace Color) and Enric Pedascoll (producer—K Industria Cultural).
