7DAYS FOR IRAQ
Naming The Dead
Since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 more than 25,000 people have been killed in that country.
On November 2nd 2004 the people of America elect their President.
On that day we will remember those who have died in this war: the civilians, men, women and children who have been killed through indiscriminate bombing of their homes; those killed in the prison camps of Iraq.
We will commemorate the soldiers of all nationalities who have died.
Stop The War, CND and ‘Child Victims of War’ are calling on people all over Britain and in other countries to organise simultaneously a vigil at which a list of the dead will be recited. The public will be invited to join the readings which we hope will last for 24 hrs.
In London the reading of the names will be in Trafalgar Square and will begin at
A list of all the dead is to be published on the Stop The War site.
We call on volunteers and organisers all over the world to join us and make November 2nd a day at which we can pay tribute to the dead and show our solidarity with the Iraqi people.
What is needed? Any public venue to which people have access. It can be a hall, a pub, a school, church, mosque or synagogue or the local war memorial.
We wish as many people as possible to take part.
Please send us an email if a vigil has been arranged, so we can list them on the site.
Let us make this a truly memorable occasion for the citizens of the world to extend the arm of friendship to the citizens of Iraq.
The co-ordinator for this event is Ruth Boswell
