It was 1998 in La Plata, Argentina, when a few guys with instruments started to combine elements from ska, reggae and funk, and adding an extra dash of sounds and rythms brought from Latin America: ALCOHOL FINO was born. Since then, the ALCOHOL FINO Style means a fusion of musical influences from all over the world with strong, yet melancholic lyrics, melting to a Crossover-Mestizo-Sound. In 2001, after establishing ALCOHOL FINO in La Plata and around, and after having released the first album “SUDAMERICANA” (2000), Lisandro Montes, lead singer and composer, decided to migrate to Barcelona, attracted by the newly uprising Mestizo movement in this city.
Soon ALCOHOL FINO had a new startover with a new line-up as diverse as the band´s music, with musicians coming from Cuba, Colombia, Spain, Japan, Argentina and Venezuela. ALCOHOL FINO took part in the “La Colifata” project alongside 20 other bands from Barcelona, godfathered and produced by Manu Chao, edited and distributed entirely in an independent way. And it was probably their participation in this sampler that opened a way to other European countries for ALCOHOL FINO, like it did for several other newcomer bands from Barcelona.
For two years, he band kept performing as much as a band possibly can, steadily increasing their musical level and gaining strenght and personality. Numerous presentations in different venues in Catalunya, Major Feasts (Sabts, Sant Antoni, Prat de Llobregat, Bilbao, Parets, Andorra, etc), festivals in and out of Spain (Mercat de Musica Viva de Vic ´03; Encuentro Mundial Fosters Family-Rotterdam, Holanda; BAD Open Air, Hannover, Germany with SKA-P; Mac DOC-Aveyron, France, etc). In 2004, the band toured Germany for the first time and gained great acceptance by the audience. Also in 2004, ALCOHOL FINO spent 6 month working intensely on the production of their second album. ¨Alta tension¨ comes along with plenty of guest musicians from the mestizo circuit in Barcelona (Cheb Balowski, Radio Bemba, Go.lem System, Che Sudaka, Costo Rico, 08001) and the artisitic production of Gambeat (Radio Bemba´s former bass player) in two of the songs.
With ¨Alta Tension¨, ALCOHOL FINO beyond doubt continued their consolidation in Europe, touring extensively and discovering new horizons throughout countries like Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain.
They´re right now preparing their next CD and working on a new and more powerful on-stage performance, collaborating,amongst others, with musicians from Radio Bemba Sound System.
